The Stirrup Hoe is my favorite garden weeder. If weeding the garden isn't your favorite chore, maybe it's your hoe. Going green at home's recommendation, is this sturdy tool.
Also called a dutch hoe, hula hoe and double action hoe.
The best kept secret in garden care, this hoe is a form of scuffle hoe.
Scuffle hoes have a blade that lies parallel to the soil and by dragging the blade under the soil you cut the tops right off those pesky weeds.
The fact that the ends of the blade (on a stirrup hoe) curl up, allows you to get in close to your plantings without damaging the stalks with the blade edge.
Weeding might just become your favorite garden chore, hopefully you don't get too attached to it, because you'll be spending a lot less time doing it.
You'd think, with the benefits of this hoe type that they'd be on every street corner, but surprisingly they're as hard to find now as they were in 1996 when we finally went to the city (Calgary) after looking in every small town hardware and farm store in our area.
